The Old Vicarage was built in 1838 with a small working farm to support the needs of the Vicar of Walton and his family in the 19th Century. The Coach House and Stables remain around a central courtyard and have been converted to provide space for visitor accommodation, a small microbrewery and a bar. The whole property retains a Victorian rustic charm and little has changed externally over the last 100 years.

Our popular local bar is open to residents and the public serving our own beers as well as those of other local microbreweries, wines, spirits and soft drinks; the bar also has outside seating with views over the fields towards Lanercost, Northumberland and the Scottish Borders.

We are ideally placed for those walking or cycling Hadrian’s Wall or simply looking to stay a few days to explore North Cumbria: Carlisle, Lanercost Priory, Talkin Tarn, Birdoswald, Vindolanda and Housesteads. 10 miles from the Scottish border and Lake District, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Newcastle are all easily accessible by car or by train from Carlisle.

We have two large rooms in the converted Coach House in the courtyard. Both rooms have flexible accommodation. The Coach House room has a King size bed and a double sofa bed. The Courtyard room has twin single beds and a double sofa bed. Both rooms can take an additional single bed when needed.
